LEWIS HINE's photography documented the Great Depression, capturing aspects of society that were overlooked, yet common, such as child labour. Hine took photos of common jobs, that have been replaced by machines in modern day society, like bowling alley boys. He also captured monumental events in history such as the construction of the Empire State Building.
DOROTHEA LANGE is recognized for the many photos she captured during The Great Depression. These photos included people living in great despair, whose emotions were conveyed through their facial expressions and body language. Her photos displayed the unique lifestyles that so many American citizens experienced during various hard times, especially migrant farmers. Her work influenced future documentation of events.
