Lastly, I chose this photo of the cup because of the composition. The focal point is obviously the cup, but all lines lead to the cup itself (fingers, arms, eyes, boards, lines on ice) rows of seats, etc.), enhancing the point that it is the main focus.
When editing in Lightroom I increased the contrast, to bring out the shiny golden cup. I brought the highlights down to -25, because the ice was too bright and was distracting. I fixed my white balance and increased the clarity of the photo. Also, I decreased the vibrance of the image to -14 because I wanted the picture to have a nostalgic feel to it, like one of those timeless photographs you can look back on. This photo was originally shot in 3x2, but I cropped the photo tighter around the cup and into a portrait aspect to emphasize focus on the cup. |
I immediately got excited when I saw this photo for the first time, simply because of the thrilled looks on the faces of the girls in the front row, specifically the girl furthest on the right. This image captures two people sharing a moment of pure excitement. I like how there are implied lines travelling from this girl's eyes straight to her friend, who is looking right back at her and mirroring her expression.
I cropped the photo tight, into almost a square. I decreased the exposure and adjusted my white balance. I turned down the saturation of the greens in this photo, (sign in back) because I thought they took away from the main subject. I turned down the shadows so that the faces of those in the background could be seen better... even though they're in the back I feel as though the emotion they portray is still important. I increased the vibrance a few steps because I associate excitement with vibrant colours. |
